TOURISM VANCOUVER NEWS

Domestic Programming Updates

Given the current circuit-breaker restrictions by the Provincial Health Authorities and the co-operation our industry has agreed to give, Tourism Vancouver has temporarily paused most of our current paid marketing and will be delaying the launch of our upcoming promotions until after the Victoria Day long weekend.

What is being paused:

  • The #LoveVanouver program including all paid outreach on broadcast, paid digital and social media. All marketing will resume on May 25th.

What is being postponed:

  • The launch of new #LoveVancouver elements including community activations, a radio campaign on CORUS stations, a new Love Letter video and advertising in community and ethnic media. These pieces will roll out between May 25th and June 7.
  • The Air Canada campaign marketing Vancouver to BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, and in concert with the Vancouver Hotel Destination Association, will now launch in June.
  • The new #LoveToExplore attractions campaign including talent-hosted videos on Global BC TV, digital display, dedicated social and blog series, will launch on June 1 (may launch a few days early – TBD)

What is continuing:

  • The neighbourhoods blog series on Inside Vancouver will continue to be published.
  • An Expedia campaign through Destination Canada’s partner platform will continue to run promotions for Vancouver within the province of BC, promoting bookings for later when restrictions are eased.
  • Tourism Vancouver is continuing ongoing discussions with industry partners to make sure we are as aligned as possible in the many plans being developed to attract visitors from outside the province as soon as conditions allow.
  • The #LoveVancouver landing page (www.tourismvancouver.com/love) is still live, and Tourism Vancouver is committed to supporting our members and their stories, and to reinforce the messages to stay in your bubble, stay in your community and support your local businesses.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we prepare for our eventual restart.

BUSINESS RESOURCES

BC Resident Sentiment - Current Level of Welcome Towards Visitors

BC residents’ level of welcome towards visitors from nearby communities has fallen to 43% (from 62% previously) based on the latest research from April 2021. Meanwhile, provincial resident sentiment towards welcoming visitors from other parts of BC and Canada has fallen to 32% and 20% respectively. The expectation is that this sentiment will continue to shift and evolve in the weeks and months ahead as vaccination continues and as health orders and recommendations continue to be published in response to this pandemic. We will continue to keep a close eye on this for planning purposes.
