PCMA Canada West is excited to invite Tyra Warner, PhD, Esq, CMP to lead our first 2021 Educational Series: Experts @ Work.

“Contracts and Negotiations in a Post COVID-19 World”.

COVID-19 is novel in more than just a medical sense.  It has made us consider whether and how to modify force majeure and cancellation clauses.  Foreseeability is the new buzzword with regard to force majeure and insurance.  New issues regarding cleanliness, service, and safety call for new contract language.  Where we used to want clarity, now we need flexibility.  In this session, we will discuss how to negotiate the best contracts for existing meetings and for future meetings, all with the spectre of COVID-19 and an unclear future.

Learning Outcomes: 

• Analyze force majeure clauses in the context of COVID-19, and the uncertain timeline for meetings recovery.
• Prepare to negotiate for new issues in a post-COVID-19 event setting.
• Understand how the concept of foreseeability affects the grey area between force majeure and cancellation.

Get to Know Tyra Warner! 

​Tyra Warner, PhD, Esq, CMP is an attorney and professor whose expertise is in legal and crisis preparedness issues for the meetings, events, and hospitality industries. 

Tyra teaches hospitality and business courses at the College of Coastal Georgia.  She is published and widely quoted on legal and crisis management issues in academic and trade publications.

Honored for professional achievement as an Educator by the Professional Convention Management Association, Tyra has also received national recognition for her contributions to best practices initiatives with the Events Industry Council and Meeting Professionals International.  

Her 25-year meetings industry career has included management roles in hotels, travel, destination marketing, associations, catering, law, and academia.  She is one of only two people in the world who is a practicing attorney, has a PhD in Hospitality, and has earned the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation.
